Prof. Kawasaki Presented at the 3rd Asia-Pacific Water Summit (Myanmar)

The 3rd Asia-Pacific Water Summit was held in Yangon, Myanmar on December 11-12, 2017. The objectives of the Summit were to set out a course for the sustainable development of the Asia-Pacific region with a perspective on water, and to provide and share concrete actions and solutions toward transboundary and multi-partnership cooperation for integrated water resources management under the risks of climate change and urbanization.


Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi

The Summit was opened with a speech by Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, and was followed by keynote speeches made by Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Minister Keiichi Ishii and other Ministerial-level delegates from each country. Prof. Kawasaki presented on Japan’s water and disasters titled “Proactive DRR investment with damage and loss data: Evidence-based decision-making using Science & Technology” at the theme-based session for the “Water and Disasters in the Context of Climate Change – From the Mountains to the Islands.” The session was attended by delegations from 9 countries in the Asia-Pacific region including Minister Ishii.

The 3rd Asia-Pacific Water Summit concluded with the adaptation of the Yangon Declaration: The Pathway Forward and the success of the Summit will be presented at the 8th World Water Forum to be held in March, 2018 in Brazil.
